Anything by the Beach Boys. In particular Pet Sounds... supposedly inspired Sgt. Peppers (which I love). People go on about Brian Wilson being a genius... they just sound like a naff surf band.

Then why would you hate Pet Sounds in particular when early stuff was surf music and Pet Sounds was something else entirely. sounds like you preferred the surf sound!

I think that's the problem - it isn't something entirely different, it's just another naff surf album. To me at least, having attempted to like it many times. I'm singling it out because of the expectation and disappointment. Sorry I should have made that clear!
